Vehicle Description For Sale: 1974 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
A Brief History of the Beetle The Volkswagen Beetle, first introduced in 1945 as the Type 1 or “The People’s Car,†quickly became an automotive icon. Known worldwide by many nicknames—Käfer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca, Maggiolino—it sold over 21.5 million first-generation units, making it one of the best-selling cars of all time. Celebrated as a masterpiece of innovation and economy, the Beetle was compact, practical, and affordable to buy and maintain. Its air-cooled engine required less upkeep and was easier to repair than many contemporaries, especially U.S. cars of that era. The Beetle came to symbolize freedom and individuality, and in the U.S., it became associated with counter-culture, peace, and unity. After an incredible 70-year run, Volkswagen retired the Beetle in 2019.
